Ali Mansourian

Dr. Ali Mansourian is Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, Lund University, Sweden. He is co-Director of Lund University GIS Centre (together with Dr. Andreas Persson), coordinator of the “GIS & RS Master Programme”, and board member of the department. He is council member of Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE, 2015-2022), member of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN GGIM, since 2020) Academic Network, and member of two Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Domain Working Groups for “Artificial Intelligence (AI) in geoinformatics” and “Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies”.

Mansourian has a background in Geomatics Engineering with specialization in Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI). He has a long-standing research direction in spatiotemporal modeling and analysis using Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques (GeoAI) with applications in health and spatial epidemiology, disaster management, urban planning, environment management, and sustainability. Geospatial services, semantic technology, and linked data are his other main research directions. He is also interested in studying and developing solutions, based on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, to improve public participatory GIS (PPGIS), citizen science, and crowdsourced databases.

In his records, he has also coordination of several international and national research and capacity building projects with medium and large consortiums, evaluation of major EU/EC research grants, being scientific program committee and organizer of international conferences and workshops related to GIS and SDI, supervision of PhD/postdoc researches,  invited evaluation committee of PhD theses, and publication of 150+ scientific journal/conference papers, books/book chapters, and technical reports.
