Geospatial Web Application course provides students with basic to professional skills to map and analyse objects and phenomena on the Earth’s surface through Web applications. The course first introduces the concept of spatial data and skills that can handle the data. Several spatial data formats and standards. Then, geo-database concepts are brought in this course, for instance, PostgreSQL and PostGIS. GeoServer and MapServer are opensource servers that are used to build geospatial web applications and they are considered as target technologies in the course. The applicability of this course covers a wide range of purposes, including urban planning, hazard mapping, etc. This course focuses on how geospatial web applications can be created, and how to prepare spatial data and use some relevant geospatial APIs. Besides, students will be well-trained to build web applications by popular web technologies, for example, HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
