Micael Runnström

Dr. Micael Runnström is a senior lecturer at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science at Lund University with about 20 years of experience in teaching Geographical Information Techniques (GIT) and Remote Sensing (RS) techniques at BSc and MSc level. He has also extensive experience in course development, course administration, and study advising.

For the past 15 years, he has been course administrator, content developer and teacher of GIT and RS courses at LU campus teaching about 100 international students every year. He has developed a major part of the teaching materials (especially practical) for advanced courses in GIT e.g. land suitability analysis, network analysis, interpolation techniques, field data capture, project management, data harmonization. Dr. Runnström has also been developing e-learning materials for a MSc program in GIT given at Lund University since 2004 with a great variety of courses and GIT topics. Between 2007 and 2014 he was study advisor and administratively responsible person for this MSc program.

Dr. Runnström has been involved in many capacity building projects over the years and has taught and developed course materials in GIT in Iceland, P.R. of Laos, Rwanda, Uganda, Mozambique, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Iraq, Yemen etc. In Mozambique he is involved in developing syllabus and course content for a new Master’s program in Geographic Information Systems for Sustainable Development.
In his research, he is exploring seasonal behavior of vegetation growth, annual variability and trends of biological production assessed from different satellite sensors.
