Dr. Pengxiang Zhao is a Researcher at GIS Center, Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science in Lund University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Cartography and geographic information engineering (2015) from Wuhan University. His research interests lie in GIScience, urban mobility, spatial data mining, and GeoAI. His research addresses transport, urban planning, risk mapping, environmental and social issues through the application of innovative GIS methods and AI techniques to multi-source geospatial big data, such as GPS-based human and vehicle trajectories, and remote sensing images.
Pengxiang has published more than 30 peer-reviewed SCI journal publications and conference proceedings in GIS, transportation, urban planning, and environmental fields. His Google Scholar citations have achieved 820, Hindex is 16, and i10-index is 24. He was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) as the main applicant and co-applicant. Besides, he also participated in several research projects from Erasmus+, The Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research – Efficient Technologies and Systems for Mobility (SCCER Mobility), The Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research – Electrical infrastructure (SCCER FURIES), etc. In addition, Pengxiang also serves as a reviewer for more than 20 SCI journals in GIS, transportation, and some other fields, such as International Journal of Geographical Information Science, Computers, Environment and Urban Systems, Journal of Transport Geography, Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, etc. He is also a guest editor of the SCI journal Sustainability (Impact factor:3.889).
Pengxiang also actively participates in teaching in the GIS field. He has been involved in several GIS-related courses in lectures and exercises, including Spatial Analysis, Machine Learning in GIS, Internet GIS, Geographical Databases, Open Source GIS, Algorithms in Geographical Information Systems, Spatial Data Infrastructure, and Applied GIS, etc.
