Petter Pilesjö

Director of Lund University GIS Centre (1995-2021). Co-Director of Centre for Middle East Studies (2010). Expert in Geomatics, GIS for land administration and management, and natural resource management and modeling. Spatial modeler, expert in topographic modeling, researcher and geographer with considerable (+30 years) experience from Sweden/Europe and developing countries (mainly Middle East, Africa, Asia). Focusing on GIS in the environment – health studies, planning, school mapping, implementation of GIS, and pedagogic research e.g. in social sciences (regional development and economy), as well as on technical issues (modeling and algorithm development). Long term research and cooperation (see publications) in Health GIS together with researchers from Medicine.

Deep knowledge in hydrological modeling, topographical modeling/interpolation, urban planning, coastal planning, morphometry, remote sensing and positioning (including GPS). Significant experience in pedagogics, project design, planning, coordination and implementation of international research projects. Long experience in organizing and conducting GIS courses and workshops in Sweden as well as in developing countries. Best teacher award, Faculty of Engineering, Lund University, 1996.
