Pham Thai Son earned his Ph.D in Cities and Societies (2010) at National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon (INSA Lyon), France. After three years of working in international firms providing consulting services in real estate and engineering industries like Savills and Egis, he joined Vietnamese-German University in 2014 as Senior Lecturer in Urban Economics of Sustainable Urban Development master study program, a program established in close partnership with Technical University of Darmstadt. His research interests lie on Urban Planning, Urban Policy, Livable City, Public Space, Transit-Oriented Development, Urban Resilience, Real Estate Market, Housing and Geographical Information System (GIS). He has been acting as Principal Investigator for a number of reseach projects on Urban Development related topics, including Real Estate Development Plan of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) toward 2030, Urban Livability and Quality of Life in Binh Duong province, Density as Urban Management Tool and Southeast Asia Neighborhoods Network (SEANNET) in Vietnam. He also joined practical projects as an urban development consultant for World Bank, UNDP and UN Habitat, and was the advisor for Department of Planning and Architecture of HCMC regarding Urban Form topic for the Adjustment of the City’s Spatial Master Plan.
