Vasil Yordanov

Vasil Yordanov obtained his BSc degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Structural Engineering and Architecture ‘Lyuben Karavelov’ Bulgaria in 2013, followed by MSc degree in Civil Engineering for Risk Mitigation at Politecnico di Milano in 2016. September 2022 he successfully defended his PhD degree at the ‘Vasil Levski’ National Military University, Bulgaria. Vasil joined the GEOlab team of Politecnico di Milano as a research fellow in April 2019, where his main research activity is related to the application of GIS and remote sensing techniques for landslide mapping and monitoring in mountainous regions using data from satellite and airborne sensors. In addition, he was also involved in various project activities – monitoring alpine glaciers and heritage sites using ground-based and aerial UAV photogrammetry; detecting landslides inside lunar craters, using optical satellite images and machine learning algorithms; spatiotemporal mapping of deforestation activities in the Amazons through optical satellite imagery and machine learning. He was also involved in capacity building projects in higher education for climate change related disasters.
